Below is a quick guide to understanding measurements and sizes.

FRAME DIMENSIONS

Inside the arms of your glasses you will find 3 important measurements, which from left to right are:

  • Lens width
  • Bridge width
  • Arm Length

Lens width: The lens width measurement refers to the largest diagonal of the lens. This measurement usually ranges from 40mm to 60mm.

Bridge width: The bridge width measurement refers to the distance between the two lenses. In other words, in the "gap" between the two lenses. This measurement usually ranges from 14mm to 24mm.

Arm Length: The arm length measurement refers to the distance from the hinge screws to the edge of the arm, including the bent part behind your ear. This measurement usually ranges from 120mm to 150mm.

ADDITIONAL MEASUREMENTS

Important measurements that you won't find printed on the inside of the arms of your glasses are:

  • The width of the front panel
  • The lens height

You can measure these with a ruler and the help of the guide below.

Front Panel Width: Measure length horizontally from hinge to hinge.

A very narrow frame will make your face appear wider and a wide frame will make your face appear narrower. Front frame width is one of the most important measurements for choosing the right frame for your face. Ideally, the frame of the frame should be slightly wider than your face, i.e. a short distance from your temples.

Lens height:Measure the lens vertically at its highest point.

PUPIL DISTANCE (PD) MEASUREMENT

Cortical distance is distance between the centers of your two pupils. It is measured in millimeters (mm) and is used to make prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses.
